Reva A. Savkar ADVANCE Science Scholarship
The Northern Virginia Community College Educational Foundation and the College Financial Aid Office are pleased to announce the availability of the Reva A. Savkar ADVANCE Science Scholarship for Summer 2020 and Fall 2020.
NOVA Professor Emerita Reva A Savkar, winner of the 2013 Chancellor’s Award for Teaching Excellence, and NOVA Professor Emeritus Robert C. Loser, established the scholarship to recognize that there can be no excellence in teaching without excellence in learning by students. They wish to honor and support students who best exemplify commitment to outstanding learning in progress toward careers in science.
- Student must have completed at least the FALL 2019 semester in the NOVA ADVANCE program and be currently enrolled in ADVANCE.
- Student must be in a NOVA AS in Science degree program leading to a BS degree in a Physical or Life Science at George Mason University.
- Student must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.5
- Student must be currently taking at least 6 credits at NOVA.

Value of Each Award: 1000
The scholarship may be used for Tuition, Books and course materials in the Summer or Fall 2020 semesters.
Recipient Selection Process: Selection made by the Reva A . Savkar ADVANCE Science Scholarship Committee.
1.) Have you completed at least the Fall 2019 semester in the NOVA ADVANCE program and are you currently enrolled in ADVANCE?
2.) Are you currently taking at least 6 credits at NOVA?
3.) Are you placed in a NOVA AS in Science degree program, leading to a BS degree in a Physical Science or Life Science at George Mason University?
4.) Do you have a cumulative NOVA GPA of 3.5 or higher?
5.) Please upload a NOVA transcript.
6.) In 250-500 words, please describe your commitment to excellence in your academic program and future career path.
7.) In 250-500 words, please explain how you plan to use your educational knowledge and experience to help society. For example, how will you help make science relevant to society, and/or support people/communities in need?
