Gupta Values Endowed Scholarship

The Northern Virginia Community College Educational Foundation and the College Financial Aid Office are pleased to announce the availability of the Gupta Values Scholarship.

The philanthropy of Margaret and Shashikant Gupta focuses on leadership, values, and social justice. Successful candidates the Gupta Values Scholarship will have demonstrated in their lives a commitment to the core values of Integrity, Human Dignity, and Excellence.

The goal of this scholarship is to promote a life-long commitment to these values among students attending NOVA by way of the scholarship and ongoing engagement with the donor representatives during the academic tenure of the students at NOVA.

Please note that scholarship recipients are required to attend a Gupta Values Scholars Washington Weekend retreat with the Guptas during the Spring Semester, typically held in late March or early April, and possibly a dinner, typically held during the Fall Semester.

Scholarship finalists will move on to a second round with a remote panel interview. Participation in this interview is required.

Scholarship funds may be used for tuition, books, and supplies. This scholarship may be renewed for up to two additional years of study if recipient fulfills the scholarship requirements.

To be eligible for the Gupta Values Scholarship, the following criteria must be met:

  1. Recipient must be enrolled full-time at NOVA or be high school seniors who have been accepted for admission to NOVA.
  2. Recipient must be in good academic standing.
  3. Recipient must be nominated for this scholarship by a NOVA faculty member or submit a letter of recommendation from a NOVA or high school faculty member. (If you want the faculty member to be sent a link to provide an online recommendation, then please provide the name and e-mail address of the faculty member.)
  4. Recipient must submit a 250-word to 750-word essay to answer the following supplemental question.

Supplemental Questions
  1. The Gupta Values Scholarship is awarded based on an applicant’s demonstrated commitment to the values of Integrity, Human Dignity, and Excellence. In 250 to 750 words, please describe a situation in your life where one (or more) of these values was challenged and how you handled it. As an example, if you were put in a position where telling the truth would place you at risk, how did you respond? As another example, how did you handle a situation where your or someone else’s dignity was being harmed by a person in a position of power? Please be specific and avoid generalities.
  2. Applicants must be nominated for this scholarship by a NOVA faculty member or submit a letter of recommendation from a NOVA or high school faculty member.
