Military Order of the Purple Heart Services Foundation, Inc. Endowed Scholarship
The Northern Virginia Community College Educational Foundation and the Student Financial Aid Office are pleased to announce the availability of the scholarship listed below for the 2018-2019 academic year. Recipient must be an honorably discharged veteran of the United States Armed Forces (Army, Air Force, Marine Corps, Navy or Coast Guard) or a spouse of an honorably discharged veteran. A spouse of a deceased veteran remains eligible, unless and until he/she remarries a non-veteran. must attach the following documentation to the scholarship application:
• Veteran’s Military Discharge Form (WD-AGO 53-55 or its equivalent)
• Proof of marriage to a veteran (for spouses only)
• Purple Heart recipients (or their spouse)—must attach a copy of the Purple Heart Certificate for priority consideration.
Must make satisfactory academic progress on the first course work completed that was funded by the scholarship in order to remain eligible for the award. A grade point average of 2.0 or higher is considered satisfactory academic progress. However, the scholarship will cover tuition, books and supplies for eligible course work. Eligible courses will include those that have as an integral base of the course curriculum the learning of information systems technology or computer-related applications to career fields. Some examples of eligible fields of study include engineering, health sciences, public services, business management, information systems technology, and computer science, among others.
**Priority for selection of students will be given to Purple Heart Award recipients and/or their spouses. Purple Heart recipients or their spouses should submit documentation of the Purple Heart Award. Otherwise, the scholarship funds will be awarded on a first-come, first-served basis to honorably discharged veterans and/or their spouses until the income from the endowment has been exhausted.
