Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Grant
The Educational and Charitable Foundation (“ECF”) is a 501©(3) nonprofit organization, which supports Alpha Kappa
Alpha Sorority, Inc., Lambda Kappa Omega Chapter’s (“LKO”) community services, educational programs, and
philanthropic priorities. In support of LKO’s educational program; ECF provides educational grants to students attending
colleges and universities. This community college grant is competitively awarded to a female or male that demonstrates
leadership abilities in their school and community.
Applicant must reside in one of the following areas of Northern Virginia: Fairfax County, Loudoun County, Prince William
County, Arlington County, City of Alexandria, City of Falls Church, City of Manassas, Manassas Park, and City of
Applicant must be in the graduating class of 2017 or a current community college student.
Applicant must have a minimum GPA of 2.50 on a 4.0 scale.
Applicant must have demonstrated leadership ability in the school and community.
Applicant must have participated in community service projects.
All awards are sent directly to the college or university and can be applied to offset tuition, fees, books and other

application. Applications must be received via email, or postmarked on or before March 10, 2017. No exceptions. In order
to be considered for a grant, the following items must be included with the completed application:
Current official student transcript that includes the most recent grades
Two letters of reference (one must be from a teacher, counselor, or academic advisor)
Parental/Guardian/Independent Contact Information
One 350 word essay response to the following
Ponder the following topics, and address at least one of them in your essay response: Educational Enrichment,
Health Promotion, Family Strengthening, Environmental Ownership, or- Global Impact.
Describe the importance of community colleges in providing access to quality educational opportunities, and
discuss how attending a community college will contribute to your future success.
ECF Community College Grant ($2500) – This award covers tuition and fees for a graduating high school senior OR
community college student (U.S. citizens only) in pursuit of a two-year degree.
Award winners are honored at our Annual Book Signing which will be held May 6, 2017 in Springfield, VA. In order
to avoid forfeiture of the award, winners or a representative must attend or give proper notice. Winners should be
prepared to make a brief statement (no more than two minutes) upon acceptance of the award.
